Watercolor- Guidelines In Choosing Watercolor Paper Before the 1800's, watercolor painting is done on any paper that is available. Normally, it will be very difficult to paint on heavy paper that is colorfast. A wrapping paper, a white paper or even tourist guide papers are common since the manufacture of watercolor paper were to come later. Today, watercolor paper is manufactured well with formulation for specific watercolor applications. These applications are divided into attributes such as weight, color, size, furnish, permanence, packaging, dimension and color. Weight - Grams per square meter (GSM) determine the weight of the watercolor paper. Depending on its density and thickness, the weight of the watercolor paper ranges from 280 to 640 gsm. To judge whether the paper is good to your application without even looking at the weight is to hold it on one edge and shake it vigorously. Paper with less weight will give a rubbery sound when rattled while papers with heavier grades will tend to give off a more metallic sound. Generally, heavier papers are excellent for water based applications although it is much more expensive. Color - Most watercolor papers are pure white although sometimes they come with a slight tinge of beige and sometimes slightly yellowish. There are also watercolor papers today that are tinted and are available in all colors. Furnish - The furnish of the watercolor paper is determined by the content or material from which the paper is made. The papers are made of cellulose extracted from plants notably, wood pulp, linen, and cotton. After extraction, the pulps are wetted, macerated, chemically treated and filtered and rinsed and poured into paper making moulds. The watercolor paper making machines are large cylinders fixed with metal wire screen mesh that gives the paper the texture of a wove. The wire mesh determines the coarseness or the smoothness of the wove produced. Size and Dimensions - The sizes that are commercially available are: Emperor sheet (40"x60"), double elephant (30"x40"), full sheets (22"x30"), half sheets (15"x22") and the quarter sheets (15"x11"). Watercolor paper sizes are also available as watercolor blocks or pads containing 20 sheets. A watercolor block comes in different sizes with its dimensions glued on the edges for portability. Permanence - Every paper deteriorates eventually however, the best watercolor paper are the archival papers. These papers are entirely from 100% cellulose fibers whether made from linen or cotton. Because of these, papers are free of lignen. Archival papers will last for more than 100 years without significant deterioration like discoloration and brittleness. Finishes - When you buy a watercolor paper, the finish is printed on a corner that tells you it's texture. There are three basic finishes that tells you the texture of the paper. The HP (hard pressed), the CP (cold pressed) and R for rough. Each texture works for particular applications. Work with hard pressed papers for smoother applications and textures. Packaging - the packaging of the watercolor paper will give information regarding the attributes mentioned above, and how those attributes will work for a particular painting.

Architecture portfolio .. ? (Answers: 1) (Comments: 0)
I am wanting to study architecture, and have to prepare a portfolio for my interview. I am a little unsure of what to include. I am currently working on some sketches on a2 sized paper, have produced a watercolour landscape and have been advised to include 2 pieces of graphical drawings. Altogether I have to produce 10-12 pieces. Could people who have prepared a portfolio for an architecture application possibly elaborate on what was included. If they have any pictures of their work, or if it was photographs, would you be able to provide any pictures? thank you very much!!

Why such disparity in wiki articles about Brandywine Springs? (Answers: 2) (Comments: 0)
I recently came across a very thoughtful, detailed wiki article about Brandywine Springs, which includes 6 references and a watercolor landscape image: http://www.mywikibiz.com/Brandywine_Springs I thought to myself that surely Wikipedia, with its millions of editors, has published an even more detailed and ornate article about Brandywine Springs... but imagine my dismay when I found that it only has a few sentences, 1 reference source, and no supporting images: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandywine_Springs So, my question is why does it appear that the work of just two editors on MyWikiBiz (a site with a $240 annual budget) has created a wiki article that is far, far better in quality than another wiki article that was labored on by fourteen different editors, backed by a $10.4 million annual budget? The "other answer" that Moses refers to seems to have been removed by the Yahoo! police. Good for them! There is to much "playa hatin'" going on here.

I want to become an artist of some sort after highschool&college, what can i do now to help me towards my goal? (Answers: 3) (Comments: 0)
I want to become an artist of some sort after highschool&college, what can i do now to help me towards my goal? ive noticed all my life that ive been drawn to art. it doesnt matter what kind of art, i just simply love it. i remember when i was little i would make my own cards with whale cartoons on them, design a cutesy little house of of a CARDBOARD BOX LID:design the floors, make furniture, arrange it, choose the colors. later i got sims, and i did all of the above except on a more realistic game.... but i also love to draw, and create pictures and i always have. a love for art runs in my family, my uncle(who passed away years ago before i could really meet him) was a famous underground cartoonist and my great uncle(who also has passed) came back from the war mentally damaged.. and he was able to create the most beautiful realistic watercolor landscape paintings.. from his mind. art is my way of making my imagination come to life, being able to hold it, look at it, alter it and know that its there and its mine. ive also explored art made by computer graphics- drawing art, and graphics designing layouts and whatnot. i'm not really sure what i'm trying to say.. but what i do know is that i really really WANT to become an artist, whether it just be designing advertisements, or something little. i want to have a job i enjoy, and i want to be able to say yeah, i did achieve my dreams and i do have a reasonable amount of income. but im not sure how to get there? i know i have atleast some money saved up for college from my family members, but im very sure it won't last for four years. and i dont know what kind of scholorships to apply for. annnd im going to take a college art class in the summer just for fun... :) sorry if this confuses you... but what can i do to start heading towards my goal of being an artist of some sort some day? i'm in my second year of high school .
